Faces of DBS Science Department

My department should be Social Sciences not social studies.

My title is Head of Faculty Social Sciences and Head of Year 13.

Although I am originally from just outside Manchester, I have lived in the UAE since I was 12 and certainly feel this is my home. I completed my degree at the University of Sheffield and moved back to the UAE as soon as I qualified, many years ago! I joined DBS in 2013 and love being part of the Taaleem family. As Head of Faculty over the Social Sciences department we are proud to explore social phenomena and problems in out changing world from different perspectives, whether that be with a psychological, entrepreneurial or economic viewpoint. We pride ourselves on being able to bring the subjects to life with real world application, be that from the economic impact of global pandemics or the impact of mental health on individuals.

In my spare time I enjoy trekking, playing netball, swimming, running and have even tried my hand at a couple of triathlons.

Best teaching moment:

Over my years of teaching there have been so many incredible moments, but I have to say some of my most memorable moments have come from being outside of the classroom. I have had some truly amazing moments on international trips, watching students grow and become more confident in situations that push them out of their comfort zones. From trekking in Nepal and Sri Lanka to learning about the art form of the Matador in Madrid, these are the moments I will never forget!
