We are always looking at ways to lessen the school’s impact on the environment and over the years have implemented various ‘green’ initiatives. We are now delighted to announce that we will be the first school in the UAE to harvest the power of the sun through solar panels! The solar power experts, Sun in Motion, began the installation of the solar panels on the roof-tops over Spring Break and the project will be completed in early Summer. This is a major commitment from DBS and Taaleem and we look forward to producing green-energy. Read on for more information on this exciting project.

Taaleem partners with Sun In Motion bringing in clean solar energy to two Dubai schools, preserving 355,000 trees and reducing 13,720 tonnes of carbon emissions.

Supporting the Shams Dubai initiative –  Dubai British School and Dubai British School Jumeirah Park to benefit from solar rooftops, solar car port and electric car charging stations.

Taaleem, one of the largest education providers in the United Arab Emirates, has partnered with Sun In Motion – a leading solar photovoltaic contracting company in the UAE – to bring renewable energy to two of its Dubai schools. Built upon the foundation of his HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai 2030 Vision and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 that aims to make the emirate a global centre of green energy.

Over the system’s lifetime, both schools will deliver approximately 18.5 million kWhs of clean energy – the equivalent of planting 355,000 trees or safeguarding 6,542 hectares of forest. They will also remove 13,720 tonnes of potential CO2 emissions from the environment.

The terms of the agreement sees the Taaleem-operated Dubai British School and Dubai British School Jumeirah Park benefit from solar PV installations to meet part of their energy needs. The integrated solution includes solar PV panels on the schools’ roofs and a solar carport each. The carport offers electrical vehicle charging points, while screens in the entrance hall display a live environmental savings counter.

“Our commitment to a sustainable future is just one part of our duty towards nurturing the leaders and decision-makers of tomorrow. Schools in particular have a responsibility to go green given that they are hubs of social interaction and have a role to play in shaping community values.” said Sam Truman, Head of Projects and Facilities, at Taaleem.

Sun In Motion brings global expertise in installing high-performing photovoltaic projects in some of the
world’s most challenging environments.

“Solar is on the cusp of widespread adoption in Dubai, and we are delighted to be supporting Dubai’s vision of becoming a global green energy hub, whilst working with Taaleem to showcase the cost and environmental benefits of solar first-hand,” said Stefan Heyn, CEO, Sun In Motion.

The upcoming project, worth approximately AED 2.7 million, will allow the savings brought forth from the investment to be employed in various ways towards their students education allowing Taaleem to continue developing facilities to enhance the children’s future. These forward-thinking early adopters will help to demonstrably prove solar energy’s practicality and benefits.
