Extra Curricular Activities PDF Print E-mail

Dear Parents

I am pleased to enclose the new list of Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs) that will commence from Sunday 25th April. At Dubai British School we believe that ECAs are a vital part of our learning environment and we actively encourage all pupils to make the most of the opportunities provided.

Although staff at Dubai British School will run most of the Term 3 ECA programme, we do use outside agencies for some specialist activities (highlighted in grey). Some of these activities will have a cost attached to them, so please double check before you agree to your child attending. If you do wish your child to attend an ECA with an outside organisation then please scroll down and click on the required link to download registration forms for outside activities. The forms will include year groups covered, fees, timings and also other information that you may require.

Please note that registration with outside agencies will be made directly through them. We have organised a sign up session which will take place on Thursday 22nd April at 11:30am-1:30pm.

Activities are offered to students as follows:

Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) - Up to 2 activities per week.

Key Stages 2, 3, 4 & 5 (Years 3 to 13) - Up to 3 activities per week.

Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Many of our activities are very popular and we would urge you to return the form by Sunday 28th March 2010 at the latest. Although we aim to offer the opportunity for pupils to attend their first choices of activity, this may not always be possible and therefore we are urging you to provide other choices. Please ensure that you put their favourite activity as their first choice. If this activity is full we will then look at their 2nd choice. However, if there are places, students will be considered and every available place distributed to students fairly. We have attached a sheet with additional information about the ECAs to help you with your choices.

Please note the following dates and important information:

  • Sunday 28th March 2010 - Final day to hand in pupil sign up sheets.
  • Thursday 22nd April- sign up session for outside agency activities (11.30am-1.30pm)
  • Week beginning Sunday 25th April 2010 – ECAs commence.
  • School is closed May half term – Sunday 30th May 2010.
  • Thursday 24th June 2010 – All ECAs finish.
  • All ECAs will run for approximately 9 weeks, depending on the activity or as indicated otherwise by outside providers.
  • Please note that due to weekly whole staff meetings on Sundays, we can only offer a limited choice of ECAs on this day. As there have also been additional lessons added to the PE timetable this year, there are limited sporting facilities available to ECA usage.
  • On Sunday to Wednesdays, Primary ECAs will start at 1.45pm and finish at 2.30pm. Secondary ECAs will start at 2.40pm and finish at 3.40pm.
  • Thursday afternoons will be an important time for inter-school and inter-house sport. Due to the early finish on Thursdays (1pm), ECAs run on this day will start at 1pm and finish at 1.45pm for Primary pupils. For Secondary pupils, their ECAs will also start at 1pm but finish at 2pm.

We look forward to a positive response to our programme and hope you will encourage your child to get involved. If you have any queries about the programme, please contact the PE department eca@dubaibritishschool.ae
