Sheree spent most her career in Hotel Management before having her daughter in 1987, when she decided to move into teaching. She gained her Bachelor of Education in London in 2000 and began her career at Hampstead Parochial C of E School completing seven years before moving to Dubai. Having worked in a large international school in Dubai for four Years, three of which have been in Year 6 and the final year as Year 6 Team Leader, she is now looking forward to a new challenge at DBS. Sheree is married to Greg and has a 23 year old daughter. When she’s not looking after them she has a real passion for travelling the globe and photographing it.
Year 3 teacher - Lucy Barr
Lucy was born in Northampton and having grown up in a household of teachers, education seemed the natural option for a career. She graduated from Durham University with a BA Hons in Sociology and Social Policy and on a subsequent world trip became a certified ‘Dive master’ whilst living and working in the Cook Islands. She returned to England to begin a career in teaching, completing a PGCE at the University of Northampton and working in an inner town school for 2 years, before joining DBS.
Year 3 teacher - Hannah Turner
Hannah graduated in 2008 from the Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, having completed a four year Primary Education degree course. Prior to and during her time at university, Hannah gained experience working at nurseries and primary schools across Edinburgh and in her home county of Suffolk. She has subsequently taught most age groups from Nursery to Year 6. Before accepting a post at Dubai British School, Hannah taught Year 1 at Craigour Park Primary School in Edinburgh where she launched the school’s new eco initiatives and held the responsibility of establishing active learning within the infant department.

Year 4 teacher - Sally Cox
Sally grew up in Cambridgeshire, England and gained Diploma in English Language before moving to Jamaica at the age of 18. Sally has worked with children for 19 years, initially at a children’s home in Jamaica and subsequently as a teaching assistant in the UK and Hong Kong, specialising in extended learning. She has a degree in English Language and Humanities and completed her PGCE with Sunderland University. Sally has lived in Dubai for six years, within walking distance of the school, and has two children in secondary at Dubai British School.
Year 4 teacher - Ainslie Teale
After gaining a B. Ed from the College of Ripon and York St John Ainslie started teaching in 1978 in a junior school in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. In her second year of teaching she was awarded a Scale 2 Post. In 1981 she returned to Humberside and worked with infants to gain experience of a different age range. In 1986 Ainslie moved south with her husband and took a post as Head of a First School Department in a First and Middle school in Shepperton (Scale 3). After a short break with her young children in 1994, Ainslie became the Key Stage 1 Coordinator in a large Primary School in Buckinghamshire where she stayed for 11 years before relocating to Dubai and joined Dubai British School from when it opened in 2005.

Year 4 teacher - Carol Hurn
After graduating from the University of Wales, Carol began teaching in Bath, England. Later she moved to Belgium and taught foundation in SHAPE International School. During this time she taught English as a Second Language and continued this in Thailand before taking a number of management posts at Bangkok Patana School, culminating in Head of Year Six. Her next move was to the British International School Shanghai as Key Stage Two Leader. She taught in the Middle East at the Gulf English School, Kuwait before joining Dubai British School as a Head of Year two years ago.
Year 5 teacher - Harry Carpenter
After several years travelling and working in industry, Harry graduated from University of Portsmouth with a Bsc. (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science in 2005. He moved on to Bath Spa University where he undertook a, two year, Middle Years PGCE specialising in Science. Upon graduation he accepted a Year 5 teaching role working in a large suburban school in Reading. Harry built upon his initial experience in Year 5 and has spent the last academic Year teaching Year 6 pupils. He has held the role of School Sports Co-ordinator at the school for 3 years. Harry enjoys all sports, loves to travel and is a keen competitor in triathlons and endurance events.
Year 5 teacher - Al-Syeeda Khan
Al-Syeeda is in her ninth year of teaching, after having completed a four year B. Ed (Hons) degree, at Kingston University. Her specialised subjects included, English, Drama and Mathematics. In her previous post, at Christ Church C of E Primary School, Al-Syeeda was responsible for the role of History Co-ordinator, which involved, reviewing, planning, assessing children’s work, making sure relevant resources were available and organising Historical visits. Al-Syeeda has taught a variety of year groups ranging from foundation, through to Year 6. She thoroughly enjoys teaching children in all subjects, within the primary school and seeks to communicate her enthusiasm to inspire her students.
Year 6 teacher - Garry Hurn
Gary left St John’s College, York in 1976 and began teaching in Wiltshire, developing outdoor education, theatre and physical education programmes before joining NATO schools in Holland and Belgium as Mathematics and Computer Co-ordinator. In 1992 he joined Patana School, Bangkok as Year Leader and in 2001 became Head of Primary at Rasami International, Bangkok, directing the school through the international accreditation process. As the Year 5 Leader at the new opened British International School, Shanghai he developed pastoral care systems. During two years at DBS as Year 5 Leader he has developed the Primary House system and Educational/ Residential Visits programmes.

Year 6 teacher - Nicola Patel
With a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Brighton, specialising in PE, Nicola went on to teach in a small community school as a Year 6 teacher. She loved every moment and the highlights of the three years she spent there were raising the profile of PE and getting children involved in charity events. Nicola has not looked back since making the move to Dubai and a large international school. She now has four years of experience of working in a multicultural environment and brings that with her to DBS. Nicola loves to travel and since living in the UAE has had many opportunities to grab her Lonely Planet and go exploring.
