Humanities Faculty Leader and Teacher of Business Studies & Economics - Matthew Bentley
After graduating in 1990 with an honours degree in Economics, Matthew took a PGCE in his hometown of Huddersfield. His first teaching post was in a Sixth Form College in Surrey, England where he moved up the ranks to become Head of Social Sciences. After seven happy years Matthew left Reigate to take the role of Head of Faculty in a private college in Kensington, London, before moving back to Surrey to work in a Boarding school as a Housemaster and Head of Economics, Business and Careers education.
Outside of school Matthew is a keen sportsman. He played football in England to a reasonably good standard before ‘retiring’ to take up golf, although the standard he manages in this sport is much lower! Matthew is also a long suffering follower of Leeds United.
Teacher of History and Head of Sixth Form - Louise Kelly
Louise graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2003 with a BA Honours Degree in Modern History and trained as a teacher in her home town of Liverpool. She then moved to London to pursue her teaching career. During her time in London Louise worked in a large, successful, state school teaching History. As well as her teaching duties Louise also took on a number of different roles within the school system such as Gifted and Talented Coordinator and Head of the PSHE and RE departments. Louise is also the Head of Sixth Form at DBS.
Teacher of History - Simon Cave
Having graduated from the University of East Anglia in 2002 with a degree in History, Simon has worked in a large Leeds secondary school for the last seven years. During his time working in Leeds, Simon became Key Stage 4 Co-ordinator of History where he was responsible for raising achievement in GCSE. Simon enjoys playing sport, cooking and reading.
Teacher of Geography - Eileen McKeever
Eileen was born and raised in Northern Ireland. She gained her B. Ed. degree from Nottingham University and was employed by Nottinghamshire Education Authority to teach Geography and related Humanities subjects in several of their comprehensive schools. She has nine years international teaching experience gained in the UAE, having taught the British Curriculum in Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai.
Teacher of Geography - Clare Pugh
After graduating from Liverpool University with a degree in Geography in 1995, Clare went on to complete her PGCE at Exeter University. She has taught both overseas and in the UK for the past 11 years. Her second teaching position took her to an international school in Singapore. This position gave Clare the opportunity to develop her role within the Geography department and the school and also provided her with a fantastic chance to travel throughout South East Asia. In the UK, Clare has taught mainly in the South East of England, and was promoted to Head of Geography at her previous school along with running the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Clare has two children, Sam and Jack.
Teacher of Business Studies & Economics - Sara Meejan
Sara graduated from Aston University in Birmingham in 2005, with a BSc in International Business and Economics. She spent her placement year of her degree working for Air France and after graduating she worked for Air Canada in finance for a year before going on to start her teacher training. Sara taught in a school in South West London for three years before moving to Dubai last year.
Teacher of Psychology - Michael Drennan
Michael studied Psychology & Philosophy at Oxford University, mixing his degree with charity youth work and summer coaching in the United States, before beginning a freelance educational career providing Sports and Arts services. He entered Psychology teaching through the Graduate Teaching Programme in a high-achieving Oxfordshire secondary, whilst also working part time as a theatre critic. This was followed by a post teaching drama in South East England and then periods working in professional theatre in the East Midlands and a mobile training role for the Teacher Development Agency funded to enhance "the rediscovery of character" in UK schooling. Most recently Michael has been teaching Citizenship and PSHE at an 11-16 school in South West England and is glad to return to his degree subject and some Sixth Form teaching! He is a keen traveller, an avid fan of (especially military) history, an enthusiast for drama and poetry and a (at best moderately) competent vegetarian cook.
Teacher of Business Studies & Economics - Sarah McCormack
Sarah took her degree in Politics and Economics at the University of York and her PGCE in Business Education at Sheffield Hallam university. She taught Economics and Business in her native county of Yorkshire, before her first overseas experience in Japan, where she taught English. She returned to teach in Doncaster and was then commissioned in the Royal Navy, completing a six year term as a logistics officer. Prior to arriving in Dubai in 2009 to take up her appointment at DBS she was working at Wingfield School in the UK. She is an active outdoor pursuits enthusiast, enjoying walking and rock climbing.
