Subject Leader for Art - Ka thryn Wilson
Kathryn graduated with a degree in Fine Art at Oxford University in 2004 before returning home to the Lake District to complete a PGCE in Secondary Art. An active painter and keen photographer she has six years teaching experience in Brunei, The Lake District and Dubai. Having spent her childhood living in the Middle East, Kathryn was drawn back to Dubai and now enjoys exploring the UAE and Oman in search of inspiration both for her teaching and large abstract paintings. Kathryn recently exhibited in Muscat with the Al Madina Gallery and she likes to develop schemes of work where her students can be inspired by other local artists.
Drama Teacher - Amy Garside
Amy graduated from Aberystwyth University with a BA (Hons) in Drama. After taking a year out to travel overseas, which included a brief spell working in Australia, she completed a PGCE at Durham University, graduating in 2003. Amy then took up two very different posts in the North East of England, one in a school deemed outstanding by Ofsted, the other in a school which catered for students suffering from emotional and behavioural difficulties. Amy welcomed the differing challenges that each provided. Before taking up her position in Dubai she was for four years Head of Drama in a mixed comprehensive school. Amy enjoys swimming, the theatre and the challenges and excitements of meeting people from different cultures.
Design Technology Teacher - Shereen El Rashed
Having graduated with a degree in Architecture from London Metropolitan University in the late 90s, Shereen went on to work in an Architectural office for several years before deciding to become a teacher. Once she completed her PGCE in 2005 at Greenwich University, She then taught Design Technology at the West London Academy for three years, specializing in graphics, before taking up her appointment at DBS in 2009. Shereen has held a variety of responsibilities, in her teaching career, including Acting Head of Year at West London and has run projects with Extended Schools in the UK which is a government initiative that helps provide facilities for children and their families in the school holidays. She has taught English to speakers of other languages, having recently completed a CELTA course.
Design Technology Teacher - Bridget Penrose-Lyall
Bridget graduated from Liverpool Polytechnic with a B. Ed degree in Design Technology in 1991 and ten years later she completed her MA in Educational Studies at Loughborough. She taught DT at Mosslands Schools on the Wirral in the early 90s, before joining The British School in Riyadh in 1995, where she was DT Curriculum Manager for ten years. She then moved to the British School of Bahrain where she introduced Design Technology from the time of her appointment in 2005. Bridget's interests include keeping fit, golf, skiing and dressmaking. She is an active guider (Brownies) and has lectured at the Royal University for Women in Bahrain, teaching fashion design.
Primary Music Teacher - Sara Lander
After completing a Bachelor of Music and Teaching (primary) at the University of Melbourne, Sarah Lander (a born and bred Aussie) worked for two years as an Early Years Primary School teacher. The next four years were a mixture of work and play as she taught in London and travelled whenever she could! After completing her Qualified Teacher Status, she returned home to Melbourne. However, after two years of working at a Primary School that ran both Victorian Primary and Montessori curricula she moved to Dubai. When she arrived in Dubai in January 2007 she spent the next three academic years as a general primary teacher and Classroom Music Specialist. Between leaving her previous post and commencing her role as Primary Music Teacher at DBS, Sarah has been a full time mum to 15 month old son and part-time flute teacher. She is looking forward to getting back into the classroom!
