Secondary Subject Specialists - Science PDF Print E-mail

Required for September 2010:

Qualifications and Experience

It is important that all candidates read and understand the General Information in our Careers section before applying. It is especially vital to ensure that you hold the correct qualifications and have the requisite experience. In the case of subject specialists, we would anticipate a minimum of two years' (and probably more) qualified teaching experience. All candidates must have completed 12 years of Primary and Secondary education.

Profile

Science is of central importance to the school and all three major sciences are taught to A2. We commence GCSE courses in Year 9 and aim to cover national curriculum topics by the end of Year 8. We set throughout KS3 & 4. Students in Years 10 and 11 follow either a Dual or Triple award course, depending on their aptitude. We want all students to develop a sound scientific understanding, while preparing some for the rigours of A level courses. We are looking for a person specialising in Chemistry who has taught science successfully across the secondary age-range to pre-university level. While we are an A Level School, and experience in teaching AS and A2 is an advantage for candidates, teachers who have taught IB Diploma programmes or have experience in high-quality national systems which use English as the language of instruction, would be very welcome applicants.

An ability to offer Mathematics to GCSE Level would be a great advantage.

This position represents an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic scientist and would suit a person who is either looking to continue an already successful career pathway or experienced professionals seeking to resume teaching after a break from the classroom. Whatever stage of your career, we are looking for certain qualities: you will love your subject and have the ability to inspire our students.

While the curriculum would be the main focus for the successful candidate, an ability to make a significant contribution to our extra- curricular activities (ECA) programme would be a real advantage, perhaps in the field of outdoor education, environmental activities, service projects, sport, the arts or indeed in any activity or field of endeavour for which you have commitment and passion that can be communicated to students.

If you are interested in applying for the post, please e-mail the Principal on careers@dubaibritishschool.ae with a full letter of application and CV stating clearly which post you are applying for in the subject line.
