Term 1 2010 – 11: welcome!
I would like to welcom e all new members of our community – staff, students and parents – and to welcome back all returning DBS families. It is a particular pleasure to say hello to all our new students and members of staff: please click here for more details about teachers who are joining us this year and here to take you to our calendar for 2010 – 11, where you can get early news about our planned parent meetings for September.
June 2010 Exam results
We are absolutely delighted with the results our students have achieved i n the summer exams. At both A Level and GCSE, in percentage and absolute terms they represent the best ever set of results that DBS students have ever achieved. There was also a record number of entries, now that students in Years 9 & 10 are regularly taking GCSEs. Their success is a tribute to their hard work and the dedication of the staff. 2010, as we all know, has been a very competitive year for gaining entry to university, but our students are certainly well placed for moving to the tertiary institutions of their choice and are having their offers of places confirmed. We will be publishing a full set of results in the format we have now established a little later this term.

Preparation for the school year
The start of the new school year has been unusually late, due to the timing of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Our teaching staff, however, have been hard at work back at school since the end of August, undertaking a busy schedule of preparation and training. As we enter the second year with our new school mission, we were delighted to host one of the foremost educational thinkers in British and International education, Sir John Jones, who was an amazingly inspirational speaker has and given us a great to think about. Everyone seems to agree that Sir John’s training was amongst the best that people have experienced.
All in all it’s been a busy and very productive start to the new school year. I would like to wish everyone, particularly our new staff and all the students my very best wishes for a happy and productive 2010 – 11.
